What Is Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) Flooring Installation
Luxury vinyl plank installation involves laying rigid or flexible vinyl planks that click together or glue down over your subfloor, creating a waterproof, wood-look surface. LVP has become one of the most requested flooring types in Allendale, MI because it combines the appearance of hardwood with far better resistance to water and daily wear.
Why You Need It
LVP is forgiving compared to hardwood, but installation still matters. Planks that are not clicked together correctly separate at the seams, subfloors that are not flat enough cause visible flexing and premature wear at the joints, and skipping expansion gaps leads to buckling when temperatures shift. A rushed installation undermines the very durability that makes LVP appealing in the first place.
Our Process
Subfloor Flatness Check
We check the subfloor for flatness since LVP telegraphs even small imperfections underneath, and level any low or high spots as needed.
Underlayment Installation
An appropriate underlayment is installed for sound dampening and added comfort underfoot, matched to the specific LVP product being used.
Plank Layout Planning
We plan the direction and starting row to create a natural, balanced look and minimize awkward cuts at the room's edges.
Click-Lock or Glue-Down Installation
Planks are installed using the click-lock or glue-down method specified by the manufacturer, with proper expansion gaps left at the perimeter.
Trim and Transition Finishing
Transition strips, quarter round, and baseboards are installed to give the floor a clean, finished edge in every room.
What to Expect
LVP installation is generally faster than hardwood or tile since there is no acclimation period required in most cases and no wet finishing steps. A typical room is completed in a single day, and whole-home projects usually wrap within two to three days. Once installed, the floor is walk-ready almost immediately, making it one of the more convenient options for busy households.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most rigid core LVP products are fully waterproof at the surface level, making them a strong choice for kitchens, bathrooms, and basements, though seams and edges still need proper sealing in wet areas.
LVP is generally more water-resistant and durable than laminate since it is made from vinyl rather than a wood-fiber core, though laminate can offer a slightly more authentic wood texture in some lines.
Many LVP products include attached padding, but adding a separate underlayment can improve sound dampening and comfort, especially in upper-floor rooms.
In many cases yes, as long as the tile is flat, secure, and free of significant grout line depth issues. We evaluate this during the site visit.
Quality LVP with a solid wear layer can last fifteen to twenty five years with normal residential use and proper care.
Properly installed click-lock LVP with correct expansion gaps should not separate under normal conditions. Seam issues are almost always tied to installation error rather than the product itself.
